Frequently Asked Questions

If you have further questions on Rotary, do please contact us.

Q1 Are meetings at convenient times?

Yes, The Club now meets alternate weeks at lunchtime and early evening to meet the needs of a wider range of members  - previously it was lunchtimes only.

Q2 What are meeting times?

The Club meets on Wednesdays and the monthly pattern is as follows:-
First and third 12-30 for 12-45 pm until 2-00pm
Second, fourth and fifth 6-30 for 6-45pm until 8-00pm
The Club does not meet in weeks which contain a Monday Bank Holiday

Q3 Are women members welcomed?

Yes. Although originally a men only organisation, Hatfield Club changed to welcome women members several years ago, and has had a woman president.

Q4 Is there any bar to women progressing within the Club?

None at all - we have already had a woman President, well before the United States!

Q5 How is the Club funded?

New members pay a modest joining fee followed by an equally modest annual subscription. The amounts payable are suggested by the Club Council and agreed by the whole Club at its AGM.

Q6 Are members required to make charity contributions?

Our charitable activities are financed by fund raising activities. Members contribute by donating their business expertise, experience and time to Club charity and fund raising projects. And we are clear that family and business take precedence over Rotary activities.

Q7 How are charities selected for support?

The Club selects its own charities usually local, but occasionally international.

We have also consistently supported Rotary District campaigns e.g. currently there is a project to deliver wheelchairs to Africa and Rotary International projects, for example, the eradication of polio worldwide in conjunction with the World Health Organisation.

Q8 What are the Club's major fund raising projects?

A sponsored walk is organised annually in conjunction with Welwyn Garden City Club. Walkers select their own charity which benefits by 75% of the sponsorship raised. The balance is retained by Rotary for its own charities. The total raised last year was some £25,000.

A sponsored horse ride is organised in Hatfield Park - last year this raised some £10,000.
